Nursery

The nursery is pretty much done. The furniture is in place, the bedding is laid out, the shelves are up...it's really come together nicely. The theme is dolls/doll dresses. I think it's adorable. The only thing i need is a rug for the middle of the floor. The floors are wood so I need something to tie the room together. I love going in there, so does Bella. I usually keep the door closed, and Bella (my dog) will sit at the door and whine. I think she sometimes needs her "baby Lily fix". I let her in and she walks around and sits by the crib. She's already acting like a little mamma herself. I think both my dogs know a baby is coming. They are so gentle with me and sweet. Bella rests her head on my tummy and I'm pretty sure she thinks it's her baby too. Since Bella can't have puppies I think she's looking forward to have this baby. I know they'll both be great with Lily because they are great with babies in general.

gestational diabetes = worst birthday gift

So today I had to take my 3hour test (since i didn't pass the 1hour test).  After 3 hours I was informed that I did not pass and I have gestational diabetes.  There are a number  of reasons this is disappointing.

1 - No one likes bad news on their bday!
2 - I've been really trying to stay healthy, I exercise 3 - 4 times
a week and I've kept my weight gain to a minimum (I've gained a total of 10lbs).  Normal/healthy weight gain would be 14 - 18lbs. I've tried  hard to keep my weight gain to a minimum so that diabetes wouldn't be an issue.
3 - I have to prick my finger 4 times a day for the rest of my pregnancy
4 - I have to chart my blood/sugar levels 4 times a day and report it to my doctor every visit.
5 - Super strict low carb/low sugar diet - isn't eating the fun part of pregnancy?

It's just an overall annoying thing.  The doctor said there is nothing I could have done to prevent it and that it's purely hormonal.  I was destined to get it :oP
The first 15 weeks were awful because of the terrible symptoms.  I thought I was in the clear and going to have a great rest of the way...now I'm totally bummed.  On a happy note I got a clear shot of Lily, she's gorgeous :o)

Lily @ 24 weeks

I did an ultrasound on myself (with help from mom). I really wanted to see Lily in 3D/4D so we gave it a shot. At 24 weeks babies are usually still pretty small, so I wasn't getting my hopes up that we would get any really good pictures. Also my placenta is in the front so it can be difficult to get a good image when you have to "see through" the placenta. Anyway, I think we got a pretty good shot considering her size and the whole "placenta in the way" issue. I think she's gorgeous, but that's just me. When I look at the pictures I have a hard time believing that she's IN THERE! I just can't believe that I'm already 24 weeks along, it feels like just the other day I was 4 weeks. Time sure flies!

This weekend I'm going to Houston on a "Girl's Trip" with Kathryn and Therese. One last outing before the baby comes. I'm really excited!!! We got a great deal on a hotel that's connected to the Galleria. Usually its $189 a night and we got it for $89 a night on Hotwire. I really can't wait to leave...only 3 more hours!

On Monday I have my glucose screening to see if I have gestational diabetes. Apparently it's a really annoying test. I have to fast, get there at 8, drink juice, wait an hour, then they prick my finger. I can handle needles and getting my blood drawn and all that, but the finger prick is my worst nightmare. I'll make sure to update the blog with my results.

So far Lily is doing well, she loves to swim around in my tummy and give me good hard kicks and punches, mostly to the bladder! She's active in the morning when I wake up, after lunch, and when I lay down to go to bed. I love her personality so much! I wonder what she thinks about and what she dreams about. I wonder what she must feel when I'm in the pool at water aerobics. I can't wait to meet her.
